Every good people when inflicted by hunger for power will eventually turn into a monster that will devour even the poorest people. That is how I view Mrs. Imelda Romualdez Marcos, a woman that leaved her own mark on the Philippine history. She is former first Lady and wife of the late Ferdinand Marcos that imposes dictatorship in the government. The luxury that she had together with all her jewelries, shoes and dresses will never be forgotten by the Filipinos.
From the documentary film “Imelda”, I found out other details about the life of one of the most hated personality in our history. It’s my first time to know that Imelda was a native of Tacloban and she was a prime beauty in her youth. After watching the film, I somewhat thought how miserable Imelda was. She was confined on believing that her actions and judgments were just and they are for the benefit of the common Filipinos but the reality is otherwise. Great patronization of art and culture was not bad but for a third-world country like ours, those things were not on the priority. But Imelda was so shut up by her own ideas practically because the people around her, as quoted by her niece, simply praise all her actions instead of giving real advices. Being on power, she hungers for more until she no longer knows if she was entitled to use that power. Truly, power and money consume a human being turning it into a monster that can devour his/her own people. I pity Imelda since up to this time (and maybe up to her death), she never realized her mistakes and still praises herself.
